What to wear under a wedding dress

The wedding dress needs to be perfectly beautiful inside out. So should be the undergarments. Through our experiences dressing our brides for their perfect day, we understand that it’s not an easy choice to make facing the variety of bridal lingerie. Therefore here we share our knowledge and advices to our brides: what to wear under a wedding dress.

1. Bustier, Corset or Torsolette

In order to make the right choice, it’s essential to understand the differences. Bustier, corset and torsolette differ from each other in terms of length, construction and purposes.

A bustier tightens up the upper midriff and creates push-up effect. The waist shaping function is minor. For a wedding dress with a moderate low back design, it is an ideal choice to shape the bust line with a secured hidden back closure.

A corset is designed to hold and shape the torso, where a well defined waist line is shown, by reducing the waist and exaggerating the bust and the hips. It may not necessarily include a fitted bust closure, which is commonly seen in shapewear solutions.

A torsolette is a bustier with an extended bodice, featuring lace-up or hook-and-eye back fastening and boning with vertical seams to shape the waistline. With a combined shaping result on the complete upper body, it is the most popular among the modern brides.

2. Strapless Bra

If you have chosen a well structured wedding dress with a built-in corset, a beautiful strapless bra will be a more relaxed solution. Due to the construction design, its support function is moderate. Thus it is ideal for bust cup-size A-C.

3. Panties

It’s truly very personal whether you will feel the most comfortable wearing a thong, a tanga, a boyshort, a brief or a hipster.

The most important rule is the right fitting: not too tight. It seems easy but many have made the mistake. If the tight elastic string cut into the skin, it will not only create bad sensation, but also squeeze the part of skin to layer around the hips.

4. Go Seamless

If the wedding dress is made of soft smooth fabrics such as silk satin or chiffon, it’s best to go seamless. Try to avoid lace panties even though they are romantic, beautiful and seductive. You won’t want the guests to guess the flower pattern after all. We always recommend Sloggi invisible supreme to our brides because it is seamless, comfortable, at reasonable price and available in most lingerie shops.

5. Stockings or Pantyhose

Though nowadays tights are more popular in daily fashion, it’s more sexy and seductive to wear stockings. It is also cooler for a warm summer wedding. Fancy lace or embroidery details add a romantic touch.

6. Garter

It’s a classic wedding tradition to have the garter toss. Many brides prefer a special piece to match the special occasion. It could be a handmade piece made by the mother of bride, or a designer piece with a signature touch.

But where can I buy torsolettes in the Netherlands? The ones I’ve seen at Bridal shops are expensive. Is there any other place?
